Cizeta Moroder V16T Prototype, 1988. First presented at the Los Angeles Auto show, the product of a joint venture between some ex-Lamborghini employees, composer Giorgio Moroder (pictured with the car) and Marcello Gandini. The engine is based on the Lamborghini Urraco’s 90° DOHC flat-plane V8 and comprised 2 banks of cylinders arranged in a V configuration with 2 cylinder heads per bank. The resulting engine has 64 valves, 8 overhead camshafts and produced 540hp. Production in Italy started in 1991 and moved to California in 1995 but in total only 13 cars were made

Audi TT Shooting Brake Concept – 2005

Colani RS racing prototype, 1965. I posted recently about the Colani New RS, this was the first one. There were plans for microcar maker Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugbau GmbH  to produce the race car as a follow-up to their successful Porsche 904, using a VW chassis and modified engine. However Heinkel withdrew to concentrate of manufacturing military vehicles and the project didn’t process beyond the prototype

Ford Bearcat Prototype, 1967. A mid-engined supercar concept that would have capitalised on Ford’s track success with the GT40. However the project was abandoned as Ford built a relationship with De Tomaso who were using Ford engines and whose mid-engined Pantera ended up being sold through Lincoln Mercury showrooms.

Seat Proto C, 1990, by Italdesign. Volkswagen Group chairman Thomas Schäfer has said “The future of Seat is Cupra” at the IAA Munich Motor show. Seat cars will disappear as they come to the end of their model lives. Cupra has become Europe’s fastest growing auto brand, most of the Cupra range are high performance versions of Seat’s cars and SUVs. The Proto C was an aerodynamic compact concept (Cd 0.25 and 4m long) that influenced Seat’s styling in the 1990s and beyond though it never made it into production. Seat is an abbreviation of Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo and was established in 1950, initially building Fiat cars under license in Spain before being taken over by Volkswagen in the 1980s. The brand will not disappear completely but will no longer be used on cars

Buick Avista

In 2016, Buick revealed something stunning. A two-door coupe designed by Ed Welburn, based on the Camaro's Alpha platform with a 400-hp twin-turbo V-6 and looks that hark back to great Buick concepts of the past. We hoped it'd see the light of day, but it was just a design study to generate hype.
