Vicious 3.886 Geplaatst: 15 maart 2013 Geplaatst: 15 maart 2013 When Enzo Ferrari presented its first 4-cylinder 1-litre engine in 1959, Ferrari had already recorded many successes with 4-cylinder racing engines : two World Championship Titles, and many victories with the 750 Monza, and 500 Testa Rossa, all with 4-cylinders engines. This architecture, designed by Aurelio Lampredi, was a winner during all the period 1952-1958 for Ferrari.The new 1-litre all-alloy Overhead-Cam engine was soon fitted into a small Berlinetta, designed by no less than Giotto Bizzarrini for the chassis and suspensions, Chiti and Colombo (engine) and Giugiaro (Bertone) for the style... A pure Ferrari thoroughbred ! It is important to remember that this engine is the one and only Ferrari engine with a 1-litre displacement, and one of the most powerful (in terms of HP/litre), actually more HP/litre than the 275 GTB ! At the last minute, Enzo decided however to entrust the sale of his "baby" to ASA, a newly formed company, headed by one of Enzo's friends. This wonderful GT was engaged in famous races like Targa Florio, with very encouraging results, and racing ASA models raced at Sebring, Daytona, and Le Mans... The Ferrari DNA was truly there. Only around 85 berlinettas were ever built (and about 10 spiders) before ASA sadly had to close in 1967. The number of remaining examples in good condition is about half this figure - another reason why they are so sought-after by Collectors. The ASA-Ferrari that we are offering is a very good example, forgotten for many years, but complete and healthy, ready for a comprehensive restoration. Chrome, windshield, side windows, and interior are in good condition, and chassis is structurally very sound. The car was originally sold in red with black upholstery, as it is now. Paintwork is obviously faded, and bodywork needs some careful work. Engine has already received some attention. This example is probably the seventh-from last built, and has a specific, unique 8-counters dashboard, whilst others had only seven. It is always interesting to find some specific details on such a rare hand-built thoroughbred. This ASA-Ferrari 1000 GT is an exciting opportunity to own one of the rarest Berlinetta ever created in Maranello. All classic Ferrari models are steadily on the rise, with a market driven by strong demand and limited supply. This is obviously very, very cool and thanks to a 217 mph top speed, would significantly help in high-speed pursuits.But there is one small problem with an Aventador cop car. If there's more than one crim, getting them to the nick would be a bit of an issue as there's only two seats. So Dubai Police sat down, had a very important meeting and came up with a solution - a four seat, four-wheel-drive solution - a Ferrari FF.Buying another £200,000+ police car may seem extravagant. But Dubai is famous for its very, very harsh winters. So a capable, fast four-wheel drive was needed, and the FF fills that role perfectly. Quote
