BMW lijkt haast te hebben om de volgende generatie van z'n vlaggenschip op de markt te brengen. De 7-serie is namelijk nog maar net gefacelift of we zien z'n opvolger al de sneeuw trotseren.

Nog geen jaar geleden bracht BMW z'n vlaggenschip terug naar de tekentafel om hem weer helemaal fris te maken. Lijntje hier, lampje daar en daar had je de uiterlijke wijzigingen wel mee gehad. Onderhuids veranderde wat meer, zo verschenen er nieuwe en zuinigere motoren in de prijslijsten van BMW. Fris en fruitig het nieuwe jaar in, maar wat schetst onze verbazing? De Beierse testrijders zijn al uitvoerig aan het proefrijden met een compleet nieuwe 7-serie!
Onze spionagefotograaf wist deze lel van een beplakte Beamer vast te leggen vlakbij een testcentrum van BMW. De psychedelische bestickering verbergt vrijwel alle details van de nieuwe Siebener. We zien een model dat ranker lijkt dan het huidige exemplaar. Het achterportier groeit enige centimeters in lengte, wat er op zou kunnen duiden dat we hier te maken hebben met een verlengde 7-serie.
Dat er nu al testrondjes gereden worden met volgende generatie van BMW's slagschip is een verrassing. Het is niet ondenkbaar dat het merk de hete adem van de nieuwe Mercedes-Benz S-klasse in z'n nek voelt, de über-Benz die nog dit jaar op de markt moet verschijnen. Hybride-uitvoeringen zullen uiteraard niet ontbreken op de volgende generatie van de 7, en naar verluidt heeft BMW zelfs een M7 in de planning. Het zal waarschijnlijk nog wel tot 2016 duren voor de nieuwe 7-serie op de markt verschijnt.

2016 BMW 7 Series (G11) Begins Testing! Will Usher in Carbon Fiber Era

 

Less than one year after the LCI facelift update for the current F01 7 Series, the next generation 2016 7 Series (chassis code G11) has just begun testing!

Carbon Fiber / Aluminum Construction

The most anticipated aspect of the G11 7 Series is that will feature the latest in BMW construction technology - namely, an exotic mix of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) and aluminum which will be used heavily throughout the car's key areas - platform, structure and body panels. The G11 will represent the first mainstream BMW model to feature carbon fiber as a key material (after the niche i3 and i8 models). This was previously confirmed by BMW R&D chief Klaus Draeger. 

With gas prices ever rising, emissions requirements becoming more stringent by the year, and vehicle weights bloating, increased efficiency without sacrificing performance is a goal BMW seems intent to accomplish, by reducing the weight of its vehicles through heavy use of carbon fiber technology. For this reason, the company started the joint venture with SGL Group in 2011 to take the carbon fiber production process mass scale.

The 2016 7 Series will come in both standard and long wheel base Li models, with the usual gasoline and diesel engine lineup. There may also be a new V12 hybrid model introduced.

The G11 will likely spawn the first 7 Series M Performance model, possibly badged as the "M770i xDrive."


Styling

As this is such an early prototype, heavy camouflage masks nearly all parts of the car. But, the G11 test mule appears to reveal one design aspect that would come as very welcome news to many - the hood shut line seems to have been moved to a much more attractive and natural position - to where the hood meets the kidney grilles. If true (and it's not just the camouflage playing tricks), this would hopefully be a signal that future BMW models (following the next 7 Series) will receive the same styling change.

Expect the next 7 Series to make its debut sometime in 2015.

Ik ben blij dat er tenminste een 7 in M versie met xDrive komt. We hebben er al zo lang zitten op wachten.

This is the all new BMW 7er the G11. 

It is moving to the next stage of the development programme using its actual body in place of the first prototype which utilised F01 body parts over G11 architecture and sections of the car.

This is the new Carbon intensified BMW 7er the architecture combines press hardened steel , magnesium and aluminium.

And in the heaviest parts of the chassis this will be fabricated in CFRP.

CFRP will be used for the bonnet , boot lid and roof panel.

The new 7er will be the most technically advanced 7er or BMW when it launches in 2015. BMW will make a lot of noise especially its significant weight loss.

The entry 7er model will weigh the same as a current 520d which is significant for its class.

New advancements will be made in Connectivity with a driver/passenger HUD.

New intelligent adaptive suspension and dynamic drive features. 

BMW laserlight technology will be an option.

The interior utilises a modern lounge feel influenced by the BMW X5 and i8 in its minimalist and expansive surface appearance. 

The pinnacle of the next 7er will be the eDRIVE model combining a four cylinder - plug-in hybrid and will even feature CFRP special aerodynamic wheel rims.

Consumption levels are currently showing higher results than the class best. 

The new 7er launches in 2015.

There is serious consideration being given to a new BMW 8er. Coupe

A date of late 2016, 1 year later from the G11 is already identified.

BMWMB heeft zich laten misleiden door Autoforum.be. Daar hebben ze deze foto's gepost in het topic van de toekomstige 5. En ik moet ook toegeven dat de proporties van de wagen op de foto mij niet onmiddellijk lieten twijfelen. Mea culpa.

Ja, deze zomer een 1M premium selection gekocht, 1 van de afgesproken herstellingen werd niet uitgevoerd en een andere werd met de klak naar gesmeten. Bij het ophalen van de wagen trilden de remmen, terwijl bij de testrit de week voordien niets van gemerkt... Heb nog een mail gestuurd naar de verkoopster om hun de kans te geven dit recht te zetten, zonder reactie.
