Die Hausfarben waren anfangs Colorado und mattschwarz, später ging man dann auf Leuchtgrün und Königsblau auf vorzugsweise schwarzen Wagen über.

Leuk weetje!

I came across these images the other day and it reminded me of a question someone asked me once which was "what happened to all those race cars from the 1970's, the 2002's, CSL and other". Here is part of the answer (crashed). Pretty sickening to see the damage on that car and that someone lost thier life (several people actually)......." During the 7th hour of race, around 23h00 in the night of Saturday 21 July 1973, Hans-Peter Joisten's BMW Alpina, current leader, tried to lap two Gr.1 Alfa Romeos GTV cars in a line, driven by Claude Ballot-Léna and Roger Dubos, in the large right bend near Burneville. After he had passed Dubos, he suddenly lost control of the car, swerved on the right side crashing into the guard-rail on the slippery Malmédy bend. The car bounced into the middle of the track being hit head-on by Dubos' Alfa Romeo on the driver's door. Race officials confirmed that both men were killed almost instantly. Claude Ballot-Léna who nearly followed his team mate, also crashed against the BMW, ending his veering some 100 meters ahead. He escaped unhurt and immediately ran back to the place of the accident in the attempt of helping his two unfortunate colleagues, also warning the oncoming competitors. The Alfa Romeo works driver "Pooky" in another Alfa Romeo GTV deliberately crashed into the barrier, avoiding the wreckages all around the track, and Huub Vermeulen in a Opel Commodore GS also damaged his car. After the double tragedy team Autodelta-Alfa Romeo withdrew all the works cars from the race in sign of mourning, and team Faltz-Alpina did the same. The three fatalities of the 1973 edition of the race lead to the rebuilding and shortening of the old daunting Spa-Francorchamps track."
